Frequently Asked Questions:

Why do I need a 15-minute free phone consultation before booking an appointment?

It is important that you and Dr. Zi speak before a visit to determine if naturopathic and integrative medicine is a good fit for your general health.

How long is my first appointment?

The first appointment is usually between one hour to one hour and a half with a comprehensive new patient visit. This is preferably done in the office, but can also be done telehealth (over a computer using video) if needed. Contact us if you wish to do an online appointment instead of coming to our office.

This will include obtaining a detailed history of your current concern, completing a thorough physical exam, and discussing various naturopathic treatments, such as diet and lifestyle modification advice, dietary supplements, botanical medicine, and others to incorporate your specific need and goal.

Laboratory services are now available, and Dr. Zi will discuss with you about labs to promote your health.

How long are follow up appointments?

Follow up appointments are usually 45 minutes and occur 2-4 weeks after your initial visit, depending on each case. Dr. Zi will review your chief concern, treatment plan, and the next appropriate step to promote your health. In some cases, a longer follow-up appointment is needed, which you might speak to the doctor.

Please note for medical insurance billing:

Do you take insurance?

Good News: Starts in June 2021 Dr. Zi is credential with American Specialty Health. Call today and ask for your eligibility for medical insurance coverage for your visit!!

At CHENG NATURAL HEALTH, we will provide a Superbill at the time of service upon your request. If you believe your medical insurance plan covers naturopathic doctors or alternative medicine, you can submit the Superbill as a claim.

Dr. Zi will help you with your insurance reimbursement, although we do not guarantee your reimbursement, nor do we communicate directly with insurance companies on behalf of patients.

We expect you to pay for your visit at the time of service. Payment collection accepts check, cash, debit, MasterCard, and Visa.

If your insurance does not cover naturopathic care, the use of a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Fexible Spending Account (FSA) may cover our services. Check with your employer to see if one of these options is available to you.

How can I get reimbursed from my medical insurance?

Call the customer service phone number listed on your insurance card.

  • Ask, “I want to work with an out-of-network naturopathic doctor, how much will you reimburse me?”
  • Many insurance companies’ customer service representatives have never heard of naturopathic doctors, or do not know what we are licensed to do in this state. If they ask what a naturopathic doctor is, you can tell them, “Naturopathic doctors are licensed primary care providers in the state of California.”
  • Ask, “What is the best way to submit my claim with a superbill?”
  • Be sure that your benefits are clear to you.
  • Give it a try anyway! It never hurts to submit your superbills to your insurance company. We are finding that many companies will reimburse a portion of your out of pocket costs.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please contact us at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time. If your appointment is on a Monday, the cancellation must be made by the same hour on the preceding Friday.

Do insurance cover dietary supplements and botanical medicine?

No, currently, insurance considers all dietary supplements and botanical medicine are alternative treatments, and they are not covered. If supplements and/or botanicals are recommended as part of your treatment plan, you will need to pay out of pocket for them. Dr. Zi always provides some samples to help his patients explore the benefit of naturopathic medicine.

Where can I buy supplements?

You are welcome to discuss multiple methods of purchasing supplements with Dr. Zi during your appointment. Dr. Zi always likes to share decision making with his patients to provide the most cost-effective treatment. Contact Dr. Zi to see whether a free sample of dietary supplements is available.
